I just got a new LG Sl80 and it's got great options as far as fine-tuning video quality. Now from what I have read most people say the lower you can dim the backlight the longer the CCFL's will last. Now my question has more to do with the bulb. A CCFL or Cold cathode fluorescent lamp is used in the back of standard LCD's wouldn't dimming a fluorescent lamp actually do it more harm than not. Just a curious question, I'm sure there is some explanation for why they are able to dim I just can't wrap my brain around it? And has anybody heard anything about the 240hz trumotion and how that affects longevity.
The 240 Hz Trumotion won't have any impact on the CCFL life.
However it is being seen that the dimmer the backlighting is, the longer it will last. Turning it up will seriously decrease the lifetime of the CCFL. These are made for variable brightness, so it won't harm it at all to have it dimmer. Longterm testing is still ongoing.
