I just received A Blue Snowball USB mic and plugged it into my mac. The red led light on the mic is on, yet garageband, logic, and pro tools cannot find the MIDI microphone.
Please first take these 3 things into consideration.
- MIDI has nothing to do with microphones in a conventional sense, leave anything MIDI related completely out of this equation.
- Pro Tools is not compatible with any USB mic, including the Blue Snowball you have. You should however be able to use Logic and Garage Band..
- I peeked at the Blue Snowball manual and it looks pretty decent, it should have all the answers you need to get it working and how to use it.. In case you didn't get one with the mic, here it is on their website:

One last tip..
I don't really use garage band all that much.. but one thing I remember is that you need to tell the software you have a USB mic hooked up..
-Click on "Garage Band" from the menu, while inside the application.
-Choose "Preferences"
-Choose "Audio/Midi"
-Change "Audio Input" to your Blue USB Mic.
Also, you need to create a "Real Instrument Track" to record in from a mic.
