My new graphics card arrived today, and as I removed my old 8800GTS, I realised that the new card (Palit GTX 460 1GB) had two power slots.I managed to extend the power supply already present to reach the new card, but now need to find something to plug into the second slot. The card came with a power adaptor (which combines two IDE 4-pin power cables to one 12V PCI express 6-pin power cable). I assume my PSU has the ability to extend two power supplies (700w; standard for my Alienware area 51 pc when I bought it 3 years ago), but am not certain. Will I need to open up my psu to check?
I've just had another look at the manual and I think my problem is that I can't find a supplementary power supply. Do all relatively new PSUs have them? Is there another way to bring power out of the PSU?
a 700W PSU should be more than adequate (recommended 450W), so use your original PCI six pin plug and the adapter provided for the second plug - should be fine
