I meant case fans, not heatsink fans. The reason being Im thinking of getting two fans, but my case only has space for two on the side. i was thinking of putting one "input fan" in the bottom side and one output on the upperside.So I just wanted to know about how much heat will be shaved off from the system case.
By the way my system temp is 49C on average while idling. goes as high as 60C when under extreme low. I want to lower it signifcantly without paying Too much.
Fan can do a lot...IF...you get the right fan and put it in the right place! Fans have a CFM rating, that is..how much volume of air can be moved at one time. Its more important to move air efficiently that create a hurricane in your case! Moving air from front to back is the more efficient way. you want a large column of air moving over the parts that heat up. You don't want air to stay stagnant or create "whirlpools" were hot air keeps going round and round an not leave the case. Side door fans are used to direct fresh air directly down on to the FSB and video card (or between the video cards) Having two fans in line (one just over the other) with one pushing air in to the case and one sucking it out of the case is counter productive! one would come close to canceling the effect of the other! Have both flow into the case. I use variable fans with separate controllers so I can adjust to rate of air flow to see were the most efficent RPM range is and at what noise level. When I build for a client I want the best air movement with least noise. buy using variable speed fans i can find the "sweet spot" and get permanent fans that meet those needs. As to your question...yes case fans can bring down to overall temps as much as 15-20F in some cases but more like 10 is average with the right fans in the right locations. If you don't have time to experiment I would get adjustable fans (with separate controllers) for the front and back fans and one good side door fan (blowing in) this way you can raise or lower the air speed for the best efficiency be it summer or winter.
