Toshiba 32AFX61 CRT Cinema series with thin green spiral but 2D lines?
Greetings, The TV shows the lines on an input with no signal, between channel selections and during/watching a show at times. The CRT is at least 6-8 years old. The TV also at times just shuts down and requires a complete unplug to bring it back. The green seems to intensify just before it shuts down. I read an answer in the community area explaining the green is set to high and the retrace lines display incorrectly by TV Tech 1 ( great info) I can't seem to find a similar way on my TV to access the set screws as he explained. I looked at the set and if pried there are plastic panels on the front by the controls that MAY come off. Any help is appreciated. Rick
Ok FIRST....you do not remove the FRONT. Go to the back, remove all the screws around the outer edge, remove the screws around the Input jack section..You should not have to remove the screws that are located between the RCA input connections, there should be a Distinct Seam that separates the back cover from the input jacks on it's own rectangular piece of plastic.....
Now...SOME Toshiba TV sets make you unclip internal clips around the outside edge...
If you find you can't pull the back straight off, or just jiggle it loose, then at the top of the TV you might find slots...
Take a Flat blade screwdriver to those slots and push it in those slots...then lift the screwdriver. The back should just walk out when you lift....
Now...to adjust that TV set.
See the big red or Black wire with the SUCTION CUP attached to the picture tube? Follow it down to the transformer with the 2 or 3 small adjustment knobs on it...
The LOWEST one is the one you have to carefully adjust (it's kinda sensitive)
You want to turn it down...down like your volume control on your amplifier...counter clockwise about 1/8 of a turn at most...
NOW you can turn on your TV set without it shutting down and needing to be unplugged.
That control is what causes your green lines too....
You should plug it in, and get the TV set to an UNUSED video input...
You want a black picture, and that will provide it
Now, gently adjust the control UP to where your see those lines again...then bump it down to the point the picture tube is black...
That's it....you're done adjusting....
No more green lines...no more shutdown.
Now, if you don't find you can turn it down enough to make the green disappear, then your Green Video amplifier has either shorted or the resistor that connects to it has opened, and needs replaced.
That would be the time to take it to a TV repair shop or find IN-HOME SERVICE., but that can run you an additional $50 to $90 depending on how far they have to travel to your home.
Hope that helps.
