I live in an old apartment building on the first floor in a corner unit. We have two outside walls, two huge bay windows, and two large old, hinged windows (one of which has an air-conditioning unit that can't be removed). The apartment is heated by two old steam radiators, which work, but seem to be struggling to keep up in this excessive winter cold.
Our lease stipulates that we cannot make any permanent changes to the apartment, or damage any surface (wall, window, etc). So is there anything we can do to help manage the cold with out permanently changing anything?
We already have two sets of drapes on the bay windows, and the air-conditioner is covered with a blanket.We have carpets in front of the outside door. We have the doors to rooms we aren't using closed.
i wouldnt care what the lease says about staying warm in winter if im the one paying the electric bill.first i would caulk around the a.c. unit and put plastic up inside and outside of the ac unit.they do sell ac covers for the outside but you would have to tape up plastic for the inside.they sell plastic sheathing for windows that is clear and you blow dry it to get wrinkles out but it can tear easy
