Hello my computer is only 2 years old, and I had bought it for a budget price. The computer itself and everything works fine.
The problem is though, all of a sudden, my CPU heatsink fan started to be extremely noisy. I took the heat sink out, dusted all the dirt and grit inbetween the heatsink fins, and made sure everything was operational.
The noise is really really loud, and I'm not sure if its time for a new heatsink (and if it is, how do i attach it on the motherboard? my current heatsink screws into the motherboard and I'm wondering how the new heatsink will be mounted) or is it just time for a computer upgrade?
Do i only need to replace the heatsink, or the CPU itself and the heatsink, or should I just take this as an oportnity and upgrade my RAM, CPU, and everything else insde the computer? Or alternatively, how can I make the CPU fan quieter without losing performance?
The noise is mainly due to fan running at full speed to keep processor cool. Better clean also the intake and exhaust fans. Back of PC should not be too close to a wall (for better ventilation).
You could opt for low noise fans (for processor heatsink as well as for PC case) or whole cooler assembly from SilenX:
Don't get the monster processor coolers unless you have a really hot/high wattage processor (~125 watts) or you plan to overclock.
