I put another fan into my Dell M60 laptop, but it doesn't stop it overheating. There are also some keyboard issues -- my "c" key is stuck and cleaning did not resolve it -- and I am now wondering if there is some underlying connection or component that I am overlooking.
Please don't just say bring it into the techs or use my warranty; if I had a warranty or the money, I'd have done that by now!

No, its never been on a soft surface. Been there done that with the dust. Actually, was surprised that the fan I removed was pretty clean.
The part that has highest wattage (25-35W) is processor. Most of the heat is generated there. If your fan/cooler was clean but processor is still hot, the cooler or its copperstrip may not be in full contact with processor case. Poor heat transfer/removal could be causing the overheating. Consider aligning or lapping the part of cooler or copperstrip that is contacting processor case. What you want to achieve is full contact so that there is maximum heat transfer to cooler.
