Our question is will our standard dvd player, VCR, playstation 2 and our satellite box still work with this TV, if not will we have to buy all new stuff. We are going from a standard TV to this one, so if you can please suggest things that we really will need for this new TV it would be appreciated. As you can see we do not know much about this kind of thing.
I forgot to mention that we have had a lot of people tell us that we have to buy a up-converter dvd player so we could watch our dvd's on this TV., is that true and if so why is that.
Everything you have will work. However, not in HD.
In order to get HD, you will have to upgrade your satellite service. Your DVD will probably look pretty good. Your VCR, at the 2 hr speed will look OK. There are up-converting DVD players, but they will only make a small improvement, if any. There are high def DVD players, but I don't recommend buying one for at least a year. There is a format war going on between Blu-ray and HDDVD which seems to be coming to an end. I wouldn't do anything until the dust clears. High def DVD players produce an excellent picture on a quality TV. Your SD TV will not look good. HDTVs do not do a good job of displaying SD. Some are better than others. The best sets, aren't that great. Sanyos are generally low rated. Get the March issue of Consumer Reports which rates numerous sets.
