I wanted to know whether buying 2 Xeon X5365 Processors (£830.50 from Amazon.co.uk) would be worth spending so much money on. Otherwise I would just buy a QX9650 (£614.37 from eBuyer.com). And also does anyone know of any motherboards that support: Dual CPUs AND nVidia SLI/ATI Crossfire?
If you have a mobo w/ 2 CPU sockets. I would personally go with the intel core 2 duo e8400. It has 6mb L2 cache 3.0ghz clock. Its a beast chip. (pretty inexpenisve as far as new chips go $188-230)
And I do not reccomend SLI or crossfire. Though if you do want to go that route, it seems crossfire is better.
My reason is, having 2 GPU's does not double performance, it may multiply performance by 1.5 or 1.8x
My suggestion is, buy an 8800GT(best deal for such a powerful card ever) or 9800gt (little better performance). buy one, and a non SLI board like the "gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L LGA 775 intel p35 atx all solid capacitor mobo"
then upgrade your graphics card when the next rung of nvidia's come out, when they become cheap!
But look it up, crossfire, if you want to do dual GPU's, is better than SLI. Its newer than SLI and improved on many of SLI's short comings. Still not perfect though.
