I've had this camcorder for almost 3 years and have yet to transfer video from the device to a DVD with acceptable quality!
I'm in the process of switching to using a Firewire connection rather than a USB, but just discovered that neither my desktop or laptop (although both newer models) have a Firewire connection.
But, will this help the quality, or just make the transfer faster? I'm thinking of just installing a Firewire card/adapter.
Additionally, I have used NeroVision, Windows Movie Maker, and Sony Vegas Studio and haven't had much luck. Frames are dropped every time I capture, causing the audio to be out of sync which drives me crazy and really wrecks the whole thing.
I am desperate for some help! What can I do to get some high quality DVDs out of my home videos?
Switching from USB to Firewire will make all the difference in the world. The video from your camcorder is transferred to the computer in real-time as it plays on your camcorder and the transfer rate with USB is too slow to keep up so frames are being dropped.
You can easily add a firewire card to your laptop PCMCIA slot or desktop PCI slot.

The other big factor with your video quality is the video capture profile being used. Ideally you want to use the highist quality profile that your computer processor can handle. II suggest opening windows task manager to monitor your CPU usage. If you are pegged at 100% than frames will be dropped and you will actually get a better quality recording using a lower quality profile where no frames get dropped. I suggest using StashSpace.Com's free video capture application as it monitors and selects the best profile for you. http://www.stashspace.com
Another option is to use a video transfer service. StashSpace does a good job at this and has an online editor you can use to make customizations. You also the option of getting your video back on DVD, portable hard drive, or online.
