I just moved into my apartment about 2 months ago. For the past few weeks I've noticed an accumilation of this black, greasy stuff everywhere. I only have one air conditioning unit (a wall unit in the living room). I only run it for about 30 minutes in the morning and about 4-5 hours in the evening. I checked the filter on it too and it is covered in this black stuff. I sleep only with the celing fan and oscillating fan, I keep the air conditioner off at night. I noticed that my nose seemed congested a lot more lately and it was getting dry and bleeding a little, but I chalked it up to allergies. Then the other night my boyfriend stayed over all night and day with me in the apartment. He said his throat was itching and my nose was bleeding a little. I went in the bathroom to clean up my nose and when I looked at the tissue, there was black residue coming out of both my nostrils. My boyfriend checked his nose and it had the same black residue. Does anyone know what this is?
Sounds like mold. Thoroughly clean your air conditioner and keep it clean.
