Is my motherboard fried?
The heatsink wasn't seated properly and kept slipping but turned off once and back on (with ambulance noises) just fine before. It turned off the other night and I let it cool. Next morning the psu wouldn't power it unless I removed the 4-pin 13v power connector, in which case only the fans and usb's worked. I switched out every single part (psu, CPU, ram) with my friends parts but nothing. I only just bought this intel board too and I don't think there is a warranty for it. The reason the heatsink was sliding was cuz i was waiting for mine in the mail and using a friends. Theres no case yet, yhis no way to screw it down. But even with this one, it was staying at around 60 Celsius which wasn't TOO bad. I just got my new one (rocketfish cooler with copper rods and fans on sides going down to processor) today! Go figure! If I need a new motherboard so be it. Only spent $20 for it and took a very short 1 day to ship here.
If power turns ON when 4-pin 12V ATX connector is removed, that means a short or overload is being removed. Check mounting of your new Rocketfish cooler to make sure its fin or base is not touching any live circuit on motherboard. If cooler mounting looks OK, the short circuit could be on the voltage regulator circuit for processor on the motherboard. You may probably need a new motherboard.
