I have a Dell Inspiron 530 right now and it came with a slow, Intel Celeron 450 CPU that is 2.19 GHz. My motherboard supports Intel's Celeron, Pentium, and most of Core. I'm trying to get a new processer but I'm not sure which one to get.
The Intel Core 2 Quad 2.83 GHz Processor or the Intel Core 2 Duo 3.33 GHz Processer.
Basicly, the way I see it is Intel 2 Quad is at 11.32 GHz and the Intel Core 2 Duo is at 6.66 GHz. Is that really what it means? Like since the base processer for the Core 2 Duo is higher, wouldn't that mean that they'd work harder than the Intel 2 Quad because it doesn't have as many processing units?

Your Core2Quad is only 2.83GHz and Core2Duo is 3.33GHz only, not 11.32 and 6.66!!
So as the Core2Duo is 3.33Ghz so it has higher clock frequency than Core2Quad, so it can process more instruction in a second than Core2Quad. So obviously C2D one is faster normally.
But Core2Quad has 4 cores, so when you run Multi-Threaded apps or some specific games which require 4 cores like GTA 4, Core2Quad can surely benefit.
Getting a Quad processor is more future proof, as more multi-threaded apps are coming out. And you can overclock the processor a little to reach 3GHz.
