I read somewhere on EVGA's site that you need a 350W PSU with 22A on 12V rails.But NVidia's official site says 300W is minimum.
But I read someone's post that is claiming to have run a 8600GT on a 300W Seasonic PSU (I believe the seasonic PSU has two 17A 12 rails) and he states that 8600GT draws max of 50W so average PC should be able to run the card.
Can I run the 8600GT with my 300W HiPro D3057F3R PSU? (Sticker says it has a 12V rail @ 19A)
Other stats: Athlon AMD64 (Venice), 1x 7200RPM hard drive, 2x 256mb DDR and 1x 512mb DDR sticks and 2x DVD /-RW drives and Windows Vista..
I play Age of Empires 3 and NbA Live 08 now and then. I also would like to take on BF2 once more. Would prefer high settings but lowest resolution ok.
I prefer 8600GT because it has gDDR3 memory.
then in that case, would it be ok to get the 8500GT with DDR3? DDR3 models are overclocked versions.
Don't forget that those numbers are the minimum requirements. With the equiptment that you have now, I think that you are already streching your power supply thinly. If you replace the PSU get a 500 watt unit. I'd get more memory too if I were you, 2GB minimum. When I build I always overpower just in case of upgrades.
