hello, i'd like to know which would be a better buy between [[[ Intel® Core™2 Quad Processor Q8300 (4M Cache, 2.50 GHz, 1333 MHz FSB) ]]] and [[[ Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E8600 (6M Cache, 3.33 GHz, 1333 MHz FSB ]]] ? im not warried about the price difference and Cache memory in both CPU's, but id like to understand which of them 2 will be able to run more applications and which of them 2 is more energy efficient?
My motherboard can support both, and im using DDR2 RAM 2Gigs 800Mhz.
And if i might add, would it be better if i kept on using the DDR2 RAM 2Gigs 800Mhz or i buy the DDR3 RAM 1Gig 1333Mhz and replace it?
And again, im not warried about the price.
The Core2 Quad will be the better processor. If you want to be able to run a lot of programs, the quad core will be the way to go. There is a trade off on speed and cache size, but if you know how to overclock, that should fix at least the speed part.
With a quad core processor, it is like having 4 separate processors on the same physical chip. So you will be able to run more programs. There will be 4 processors running at 2.5 GHz that will do whatever you tell it to do.
As for the RAM, the two gigs of DDR2 you have should be fine, however i would recommend that you get 4 gigs so that you will have enough memory to be able to run multiple programs. and as a side note, if money is not an issue like you said, i would try to get the Intel Core2 Quad Q9650 ($325 on newegg.com) it has 12 MB of L2 cache and is 3.0 GHz.
