Im customizing a new computer and was wondering if I should spend the extra $30 bucks for the Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy SE or if the onboard AMD 770 Chipset w/ 7.1 Sound was sufficient.
Its a gaming computer and I play games like Counter Strike-Source where it is important to hear footsteps. I have a nice set up headphones and would rather put the $30 bucks to apply a fan/thermal meter if the $30 for the soundcard isnt worth it
If gaming sound is important to you, even that creative labs card isn't a good choice. That soundcard is old and outdated and you'd be better off with the onboard.
having said that, if you really want good immersive gaming sound, an addon card is better then the onboard card.
I'm using a gaming soundcard, and its nice and has amazing gaming sound, but its also more then 200$ to buy it and if you don't have a set of kicka$$ speakers to go along with it, it isn't much use.
So stick with your onboard unless your really willing to spend money on a GOOD soundcard. There is nothing wrong with onboard really and the modern onboard sound is superior to the older soundcards like the one you listed.
