Whats this slot in the side of my laptop?
thers another question on here like this that says its the pmsci or something like that but mine is a bit different. I have an hp pavilion dv9700. The slot is right beside where they put the stickers. I just have to put my finger on the mousepad move it over to the edge of the computer and its right there. Its a few mm wider than a credit card like from top to bottom of the credit card.

theres a picture on it and just above it on the little handrest for the keyboard its a picture of a square with 3 little lines on the bottom of it. What is this slot. Is it empty? How can i pull it out? What can i put in there? Can i put a stand alone video card in there? Can i add extra ram?
Sounds like an ExpressCard slot:

Could also be a PC Card (PCMCIA) slot (if your computer is older):

Generally, these are used for things like memory card readers, mobile broadband cards, modems, wired and wireless network cards, and a number of other little devices. Mostly, these days, they're only used for mobile broadband cards and occasionally wireless network cards if the internal card isn't working or doesn't meet the user's needs.
The interface isn't hooked into the computer's motherboard in such a way to facilitate an external video card or extra RAM very well. It's far too slow to use for extra RAM (though it can be used for extra storage space through flash media cards). But there is actually an option to upgrade your video chipset:

Of course, this requires you to haul around a complete desktop video card with you (not to mention an external monitor to make use of it!). So it's not the most practical of solutions.
