I just got a portable external hard drive for my laptop, and today I set it on top of my laptop for several hours with both the laptop screen and external drive on.
When I came back to my computer and lifted the lid, my screen was dimmed significantly. I tried closing the lid completely to put it into sleep mode, then opened it again and signed into my profile. The sign in screen was normal, and when I got into my profile it was normal for about 1 second before flickering and dimming again.
I restarted the computer and now the screen seems to be fine, but I wanted to know if my external drive could be the reason my screen did this. Anyone know?
i dont believe it will cause permanent damage to the LCD. But having a HD except for solid state drive near any TV, Monitor, or magnets.. Such as speakers, they contain magnets. This is neither good for the screen or the HD. This can cause permanant damage to a CRT monitor or TV set.
