How do you make an improvised calculator?

Dear genius,
The calculator is not a software calculator, but a hardware calculator with ICs, circuit board, buttons, and LED display. It must be able to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. What are the materials needed and how do you assemble it?

There's an easier way. Many centuries ago the ancients invented the Abacus. Essentially it uses beads sliding along horizontal rods. It is east to construct out of readily available materials.
