Upgrading netbook graphics card for windows 7?
I have a fujitsu lifebook B3020D and I'm going to update to windows 7. Right now I have xp pro.
I want to upgrade the graphics so I can use windows 7 Aero. I know I don't need it but I want it. So can I update the graphics in my netbook? If so what would be the best solution for it to work with aero?
Here are my graphic stats:
Name: Intel(R) 82852/82855 GM/GME Graphics Controller
Manufacturer: Intel Corporation
Chit Type: Intel(R) 82852/82855 GM/GME Controller
DAC Type: Internal
Approx. Total Memory: 64.0 MB
Current Display mode: 1024 x 768 (32 bit) (60Hz)
Monitor: Plug and Play Monitor
thanks
hi there
basically you cant,,,its impossible in a laptop however with the limited space in netbooks that why most of them come with intel gma onboard graphics solutions
however a few manufactuers have seen this gap in the market and have released "external graphic cards" for laptops and netbooks...however before you think about buying one you need a "express card slot" in your netbook...this is what you connect the devices to since these can transfer data far quicker than usb or firewire
there are a few of these devices around however the most popular is the "asus xg station" ( http://www.tomshardware.com/news/ces-asus-xg-station,4679.html ) ..and these come with a geforce 8600gts allthough some versions come with the geforce 7900gs....and these can be overclocked from within the unit which then has either a vga or a hdmi connector to your monitor
in tests the xg station is around 12 times more powerful than the average intel graphics media accelerator,,,and allows laptop/netbook owners to run games they normally wouldnt be able to run
another external graphics card worth checking out is the "AMD XPG" ( http://www.fudzilla.com/content/view/17158/1/ ) ..and this houses a 40nm Mobility Radeon HD 5870 ....and this is a seriously good peice of hardware,,,its hard enough to get decent graphics on a notebook or netbook however direct x 11 graphics is awesome
and the XPG is a lovely peice of kit and will run any of todays games in style however it costs around £250 which is alot of money, especially when you can buy a similar desktop card for under half the price....and by adding the xpg or xg station to your laptop/netbook it loses its portability,,making it more like a desktop replacement
as i allways tell people if you like gaming then steer clear of laptops and netbooks, they are not designed for gaming and never will be...you can get gaming laptops but these are around £1500...however at least these external graphics cards will let you run some of the latest games
hope this helps, any problems let me know
good luck !
