I added a 512 MB memory stick to my IBM T30 P4 1.8 GHZ notebook. System does not detect it; what to do?
It still shows 512MB RAM under properties. It should show 1 Gig.
I tested out the new memory stick by removing the old one and trying to run on one only. The gist of the test was both old and new memory sticks are good and work with this system
BUT....no matter what you do the second slot will not read the stick.
What now?
Both sticks are good since the PC will run with either one on slot 1.
System will not run with only 1 stick in slot 2.
Therefore, slot 2 is not reading either stick.
What to do now?
Perhaps you didn't get a compatible type of ram, or perhaps you have two different types of ram in there.
The laptop should detect the new ram automatically.
