Tons of laptop questions?
I got a second hand Panasonic Toughbook CF-48 as a gift. I know nothing of laptops or this kind of laptop. Here are my questions:
1). Is this a good type?
2). It has Windows Pro on it, is that a good program? It has 128 MB, 10 GB, and 700 MHZ, are any of those good?
3). I want to play computer games on it and get online. I have DSL, will that work with this kind of laptop?
4). If I want to increase the memory, do I get a memory card at a store (like Best Buy), or will I have to order one online?
5). Do wireless internet card work with these laptops?
6). If I want to upgrade my program to Windows XP or Vista, will I be able to on this kind of laptop?
7). Will I be able to buy a new battery for it in the store, or do I order one online?
8). When will I have to replace the battery? If I use it at home plugged in, is that okay? Or am I supposed to unplug once it is charged?
Sorry for so many questions. I am very anxious about having a laptop. I'm excited, yet clueless
1. It seems like a good type but i've never really seen a Panasonic laptop.
2. If Windows Pro is Windows Professional or whatever, then that is okay too. if the RAM is 128 MB then it could use alot more for better performance, especially if you want to use it alot. 10 GB hard drive could be alot more too, especially if you like to download things like music, pictures, videos, etc. 700 mhz is average CPU processor speed, but that could be upgraded too, especially if you want to run programs, play games, etc. My computer has 512 RAM, 80 GB Hard Drive, and 2700 MHZ CPU processor. It is very excellent, i would suggest upgrading those specs to something around there.
3. You can play games with DSL Connection but as i mentioned above about the CPU processor, i would recommend upgrading it to about 1000+ MHZ for full gaming abilities and no problems like lag, freezing, crashing.
4. You can probably order more memory both ways, but i would suggest buying online since they probably have more variety of memory cards.
5. Yes, some wireless LAN cards that you stick into laptops will work. Friend has one at 11mbps, by Linksys.
6. Yes you can upgrade, you will have to buy the disk for upgrading, and make sure it is the Upgrade version and not the full install version.
7. As mentioned before about the memory, you can buy in the store also but online would probably be your best bet for more variety.
8. Batteries will last for years, but eventually they will stop functioning. If your laptop is fully charged, it is okay to keep the adapter plugged in because it stops charging once it is 100%. If the battery fully dies and the computer doesn't turn on, no biggie. Just plug in the adapter and it will continue charging and you can turn your computer on again while it recharges. ~ Also if you don't feel like using your battery, you can remove it from your laptop safely, and you can use your laptop from your AC Adapter and it will use power off of that.
