I'm fairly sure the answer is no, but I wanted to ask anyway. I have an Advent 7014 notebook with integrated graphics chipset, but I would like a dedicated graphics card for 3d modelling work. This was the best machine I could afford at the time. I have a free PCMCIA slot but all I can see for this is wireless network cards or sound cards. Any ideas other than a new laptop?
I did some research on Advent computers and it seems like a mom & pop type operation. 
What I would recommend is emailing them and seeing if they have a docking station what works with your computer (or if they can provide you with the information to try to find one that will work with your computer) that has a open PCI, AGP or PCI-e slot in it.
If you're lucky enough to find this, you can simply purchase the docking station, install your desktop video card of choice (compatible with the slot in your dock) and that should do it (install drivers of course).
There aren't really any external video cards (usb, pcmcia or firewire) that will do 3D rendering. You can find some stuff that will do TV capture and tuning, but that's not the same.
Good luck on your search. I'd consider building a cheap-o desktop computer that you can use for 3d work until you can afford a laptop with a good video card in it.
