Macbook w wireless logitech mouse and keyboard attached as well as 24" monitor through the mini DVI on the macbook w/ adapter.
PC laptop.
I can't seem to get synergy to work with the 2 machines, possibly because i am using a remote connection on the PC so they aren't technically on the same network.
In order to clean up my desk space, I am looking into a KVM switch.
Will I be able to leave the monitor connected to the macbook and not have that switch when I flick the KVM? Do you have to plug the monitors into the KVM for it to function or does it receive it's commands through USB connections with the 2 machines?
I'm confused as to the ins and outs of the switches.

You don't have to use the monitor connections. Either the button on the KVM itself or a keyboard command is all that is required to switch the KVM to the other machine.
That KVM should do what you need.
