The laptop that I am currently using is broken. Well, actually the screen is broken -.-'' The left hinge is really loose and the screen almost broke off of it. This laptop is a Dell Latitude D600. I believe this problem was caused by the laptop being shaken too much (o.o) And also the part where the power button and volume button is located (just below the hinges and just above the keyboard,) the left side of it lifted up a bit (O.O). How can I fix the hinges without having to get them fixed at a store and how to snap back the part that I just mentioned lifted up a bit. Please give me something that will really work b/c this is my sister's laptop and I don't wanna do anything to break it (TT-TT) By the way, while I am waiting for answers, I am currently supporting my screen with a pillow (-_-'')
The hinge screws heads have more then likely been sheared. The plastic piece where the power button is located is designed to come off to get to the screws underneath. On the right side of the plastic you can see a little notch where a small flathead screw driver goes to lift it up. Go ahead and lift it up and out. It slides back in on the left and snaps back in at several places till you get to the right side. When you have it off, there are two screws on each hinge. If one side is sheared, as is likely the case, unscrew the other side and lift it straight out, it wont go far because there are wires attached, but lift it out and set it back. The screws with the sheared heads will be sticking out just a little, use some needle nose pliers and turn them out... takes awhile. Now all you need is 2 replacement screws, if you don't have any, I have in the past used one screw from the bottom of the computer in its place to at least keep the LCD in place till I got some... hope that helps..
