Which servers should I pick and why?
I have an assignment to build a network which requires some servers.
I have researched many sites that offer servers such as:
LENOVO SERIES
HP PROLIANT
DELL:BLADE
I don't have much knowledge on the issue but there aren't any categories available such as web servers or database servers or file servers and I don't know which one should I pick.
The needed servers for this corporation are:
SAP server (database)
File server
Web server
Mail server
Directory server
A little help would be appreciated.
By the way I am not asking to tell me which model should I pick but I am asking a guideline and some factors I should consider in order to make a choice.

First, decide if you want to combine functions on the servers. If you had to run more than one service on a system, I would keep the web and mail services on one machine, the file and directory services on another and the SAP on it's own.
if you're using individual machines, your decisions will be a bit easier.
All of these things require one primary functions for high availability: fast networking. Make sure they're all capable of at least gigabit speeds on their network adapters.
Second, a couple of these things require rapid disk I/O: the database server and the file/directory server should have fast drives. This isn't as necessary on the web or mail servers, even with the amount of write the mail server will do. Reading data from a database or opening and updating a file need fast, reliable access.
Finally, look at redundancy. If a server machine has a redundant power supply, that's good...keep them running if one fails.
You might also want to look at drive capacities. SCSI is still probably the performance king on drive interfaces, but they can't match the capacities of SATA drives, and the performance difference has narrowed a lot, too. On some of these systems, you might want to consider data redundancy as well as power redundancy. How you do that is going to depend on how much data you expect to store on your drives. But having on-board RAID capability is something to consider.
For example, if you know that you'll never store more than 500 GB of data on a single system, and the box can use multiple drives, consider using two drives with RAID 1 (mirroring).
Most data setups use external storage and RAID systems these days, but I don't know if you're going that far with this project.
