I've had this desktop pc for about a year and it has been running well using all four cores of the Phenom Quad core CPU. But after some hard power resets during some software installition, it runs much slower and the system monitor software shows only one core in use instead of the four separate graphs for each core of the Quad Phenom. I suspect it may be a BIOS problem. So what do I do? Gateway's site shows not downloads for the latest bios, a Phoenix BIOS, and I don't know how to flash the motherboard anyhow. I have found no way in the BIOS to order it to start using four cores again, nor have I found any help in Vista. Suggestions welcome!
I had this problem with a triple core phenom.The problem was I had to download a driver to make all cores to show up.I tried so many steps I'm not sure what worked. Start with this utility AMD Power Monitor (http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/TechnicalResources/0,,30_182_871_15259,00.html) It will show the info of the CPU and how many cores it utilizes.Go to microsot updates and AMD website see if there is a driver available.
