What is the ratio of the tension in the left wire to the tension in the right wire?
The figure shows a vertical pole of height h, that can rotate about a hinge at the bottom. The pole is held in position by two wires under tension. What is the ratio of the tension in the left wire to the tension in the right wire?

Take the tension of the wire on the left as T1 & the one on right as T2,
using pythagoras theorem, ( [] as square root, don't know what to use)
T1^2=(h/2)^2 + h^2
T1 = [] (5h^2/4)
T2^2=h^2 + (h/2)^2
T2 = [] (5h^2/4)
hence, T1:T2= [] (5h^2/4) : [] (5h^2/4)
therefore T1:T2 = 1: 1
