Your friend is telling the truth. I just priced up all the parts you've mentioned and it sums up to over 1700 pounds. I found all the parts at cclonline.com with current prices for each part. I will suggest that you consider carefully how you spend your 900 pounds. With this amount, you could build yourself a 3D system. Building is far simpler than you think. You do have to take steps to learn a few basics. Step by step guides on youtube are a good place to start. 900 pounds is a very good price for what you are getting, you could also add a 3d monitor to the whole set up.
