I have recently found out that the graphics card I want to purchase, 9800GT, is very prone to overheating and breaking down, but the Gainward 9800GT has a dual slot fan which would make it slightly louder but also much safer and lower temperature. Also it is underclocked slightly from 600Mhz to 550Mhz. Not very much slower at all though, only 8.3% slower than the average 9800GT.
Is this true though? Would the underclocking and the dual fan actually prevent overheating? Is it much more worthwhile getting the Gainward one with this than the normal one which many people have had problems with?
yes underclocking your card will lower its temperature out put. I have no idea how to do it or if it is actually possible. I would guess that it is being done around the globe. but I know for a fact underclocked anything produces less heat..ram CPU anything...lowering the speed of the stuff reduces the heat it produces....it lowers the heat it does not prevent overheating mind you...
ive never seen a lone card that uses 2 slots.
also I can only speak from experience...but if your planning to only have one video card in your motherboard than having only one highspeed slot is good enough..the high speed PC-E slots are primarity used fro video cards. I f I built a brand new rig tommorow Id never have more than 1 video card there for would ONLY focus on the speed of the ONE PCI-e slot where I planned on putting the ONE video card. I dont know how much crap you want to put into you rmother board but myself its pretty minimalist... .
