Computer Memory and Video Card Memory?

Since I am not very good with computers I wanna ask this:

I have a AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-core Processor 3800+, 250 GB 7200 RPM Hard Drive, 2048 MB DDR Dual-channel memory, NVIDIA GeForce 6100 video card with a PCI-Express slot.

Since my computer RAM uses the DDR memory type can I use a BFG Tech GeForce 7800 GTX OC 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 card which uses GDDR3 memory type? Are they compatible or does it have not effect anything?

And should I get an overclocked card or not
I might get either a EVGA GeForce 7800 GTX or the one I mentioned above.

Yes you can use the card. Board memory and graphics card memory are independent of each other in this case and you should not have any conflicts....

As far as overclocking, I always recommend against it... The small gains by OC'ing isn't worth the shortened life...
