I just recently learned about the Thermoelectric effect. If you set up a peltier device that collected the sun's heat to form a gradient against a cool underground point, you could generate electricity. What I am wondering is how efficient is this versus the photovoltaic effect. I know solar cells are very inneficient compared to other sources of electricity, but would the thermoelectric method fare any better?
In photovoltaic effect means, just like a diode. Already we know the principles of the pn junction diode. as same procedure is followed in this effect. but slightly varying the operation. in pn junction diode a current will flows through it.then only it conducts in forward bias. in this effect the light rays are passed to the junction of the diode. so the excess electron will produced in the p-layer or n-layer, then current will produced. the procedure is same as per the solar but little bit difference.
In thermoelectric effect also same as per the procedure of the photovoltaic effect, but in this effect a heat radiation is passed to the junction of the diode.
