help getting computer to recognize external 20 gb toshiba hard drive?
i will connect the hard drive to the computer and the computer will recognize it and say it's ready for use, but i can't find the drive anywhere on the computer. What do i do?
Open Windows Explorer (Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Windows Explorer). Your external drive should appear in the folder list along the left of the Explorer window. It'll have a new drive letter. A: is your floppy drive (if you have one), B: is a legacy designation for a second floppy, C: is your system drive, and D: is your CD / DVD drive. There may be others, depending on your configuration. Your new external drive will probably be the last drive letter in the list.
