DVD-ROM drive on PCI IDE card?

I have a 3 in 1 SIIG USB/Firewire/IDE card. I placed my Pioneer DVR-104 on the primary ide connector. It functions perfectly in Windows 98. In Windows XP however, reading DVD-R's are slow, it won't read some brands of DVD-R, and sometimes even hangs the operating system when reading a disc. I have the latest SIIG controller drivers for WinXP. What could be causing this, (if anything)?

I think "Windows '98" is a lot better than "Windows XP". I tried them both and problems like the one you have and many more others made me to go for the "Windows '98". I'd advise you to do the same and use "Windows '98".
