Originally desktop plugged straight into router, moved rooms about 30ft awayand went wireless on the desktop. Signal strength shoes very low on desk top but on laptop which is next to it it shows excellent. The BT line has NOTHING to do with signal strength, he conned you. Most desktop wireless cards are pci. If you fitted one of these it is normally in a location where the antenna is screened by the case. This is never good for wireless. You could try an extension to bring the antenna up above the desk, or fit a usb wireless card with a usb extension lead to fit it on top of the desk. Also try re-positioning the router. It should be as high as possible, clear of obstructions and with the antenna NOT right against a wall.
