Wuxga Lcd Backlight

can I replace a dual backlight laptop lcd with a single backlight or LED backlight one? ?
I have a 17" dual backlight WUXGA LCD laptop and was wondering if it would do any harm if I were to switch it to a single backlight or LED baclight LCD of the same size and resolution. Would that cause the inverter to burn out or anything?
Well, if you changed your backlight setup, you would be changing your inverter as well... I should hope! I mean, the inverter that is currently powering the two mercury filled cathode tubes, is designed to power those two tubes. Now, if you just hooked up one bulb... yes that one bulb will work, but it will burn out faster. Just like how if one bulb burned out first, the other would soon follow.
Of course, going from a dual bulb setup to a single bulb setup, in a screen designed for two bulbs... is gonna look like crap. Unless you like having your screen look like a gradual gradient from light to dark.
